Matthew Ray Matlock is a public affairs specialist with the Air Force Reserve currently assigned to Dobbins Air Reserve Base in the Atlanta Metro. In his civilian capacity, he is a video production specialist at the Headquarters Air Force Reserve Command Public Affairs.

Matthew’s avid love for capturing life’s moments started when he picked up a camera nearly 20 years ago after learning fundamental photography from his mother. While stationed in Japan, Matthew’s passion for storytelling took off when he began capturing the Japanese culture and landscape. He expanded that love to other countries as he traveled across Southeast Asia. His passion for photography evolved when he changed careers after leaving active duty and transitioning to public affairs while assigned to the Arkansas Air National Guard. As a seasoned broadcast journalist and public affairs specialist, Matthew has over six years of diverse experience creating photo and video content, social media management, website development and management, marketing and branding, strategic and crisis communications, and community relations. He has worked on projects with sitting U.S. senators, members of Congress, state and local officials, and other high-ranking military members and foreign partners. He has documented military activities in the continental U.S. and five foreign nations. His attention to detail and storytelling techniques have led to his work being published by major news outlets such as the NFL Network, Newsweek, Air Force Times, Military Times, various military and aviation magazines, and many DoD and government agencies.

In his current role, Matthew serves as the HQ AFRC PA’s video production center team lead, overseeing the daily operations of a $1.5 million studio. While seeking higher education, Matthew holds a Bachelor of Science in Digital Cinematography from Full Sail University and is pursuing a Master of Science in Entertainment Business.
